Probably you have heard or seen one of America’s oldest sports called Lacross, right? But you might be wondering how this game is played and what are the equipments needed to play this game. Both men and women from all ages are now into this game, and they all enjoyed playing this contact type of sport. First of all, you need to know the basic equipments needed in order to play this sport and the necessary gears required to ensure that you are protected during the game.
Sticks
Same as other sports, there is a slight difference in the equipment used by men and women. For men, wider sticks are used, in fact, according to US Lacrosse regulation, their stick needs to be between 6.5 to 10 inches wide and are longer with deeper pockets while for the women, it should only be between 7 to 9 inches and are smaller with shallower pockets. The Lacrosse stick is consists of two parts, the handle and the head. The handle is a hollow, polygonal tube made from Kevlar, Titanium or Aluminium. The end part of the handle is called the butt and is often wrapped with rubber or tape for a tighter grip. The head is used to throw, cradle and catch the ball.
Gear
Before playing the game, make sure that every player should have their gear for protection. The important gears that should be worn playing the game are: helmet, gloves, mouthpiece, arm and shoulder pads and rib pads. Although the rib pads are optional, it is important to ensure one’s safety first during the game. Again, there are slight differences of the gear used by men and women. For men, their gear looks similar to an ice hockey while women’s gear resembles the field hockey. And also, women are required to wear goggles during game.
